Cumha Sheathain (Lament for Seathan), also known as Òran Sheathain
(Song of Seathan) or Seathan Mac Rìgh Eireann (Seathan, Son of the King of Ireland), is a dirge dating back as early as the 14th century. Many iterations of this song exist with hundreds of verse variations, but some of the most popular are those catalogued by 19th century folklorist Alexander Carmichael in his anthology Carmina Gadelica. Today it is mostly sung as a waulking song.
